Privacy Policy
Effective date: January 1, 2024 Last updated: January 15, 2026
This privacy policy describes how tribits.org ("the site") handles visitor information. The short version: we collect very little and do not sell anything.
What We Collect
Server Logs
Like most websites, our hosting provider (Cloudflare) automatically collects standard server log information when you visit the site. This includes:
- IP address (anonymized in analytics)
- Browser type and version
- Pages visited and timestamps
- Referring URL
This data is used for security monitoring and aggregate traffic analysis. We do not use it to identify individual visitors.
No Cookies for Tracking
The site does not set cookies for advertising or user tracking. If you use the search feature, it operates entirely in your browser without sending search queries to an external service.
No Third-Party Analytics
We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other third-party analytics service that tracks visitors across sites. Traffic information comes exclusively from server-side logs provided by our hosting platform.
What We Do Not Collect
- Personal information (name, email, phone) unless you voluntarily send it via email through the Contact page.
- Payment information. The site does not sell anything.
- Location data beyond what is implicit in IP addresses.
How We Use Information
Server log data is used for:
- Monitoring site health and availability.
- Understanding which pages are most useful (aggregate page view counts).
- Detecting and preventing abuse.
If you contact us by email, your message and email address are used only to respond to your inquiry. We do not add contact information to mailing lists.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer visitor information to third parties. Server log data is accessible to our hosting provider (Cloudflare) under their standard terms of service.
Data Retention
Server logs are retained according to our hosting provider's standard retention policy, typically 30 days. Emails sent to contact addresses are retained as needed to address the inquiry and then deleted.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS. Security headers are configured to prevent common web attacks. See security.txt for security contact information.
Children
The site is technical documentation not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, the update will be reflected in the "last updated" date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be noted in the Changelog.

Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights regarding your personal information, including:
- Access. You can request information about what data we hold related to your visit. In practice, this is limited to server logs during the retention period.
- Deletion. You can request deletion of any personal data we hold. For server logs, this happens automatically after the retention period expires.
- Correction. If you contacted us by email and your information is incorrect, you can request a correction.
- Objection. You can object to specific uses of your data. Given the minimal data we collect, this is unlikely to be relevant.
To exercise any of these rights, contact privacy@tribits.org with your request. Include enough detail for us to identify the relevant data.
International Visitors
The site is hosted on a global CDN (Cloudflare), which means your request may be served from a data center in your geographic region. Server logs may be processed in locations where our hosting provider operates. By using the site, you acknowledge that your information may be processed outside your home country.
We do not transfer data to third parties for processing. The only data flow is between your browser, the Cloudflare CDN, and the origin server.
Do Not Track
The site does not currently respond to "Do Not Track" browser signals. However, since we do not use tracking cookies or third-party analytics, the practical effect is the same as if we did honor the signal. No cross-site tracking occurs regardless of your browser settings.
Content Delivery Network
The site uses Cloudflare as its content delivery network and hosting platform. Cloudflare processes requests to deliver pages efficiently and provide security features such as DDoS protection. Cloudflare's own privacy policy governs their handling of network-level data. We have configured our Cloudflare settings to minimize data collection and do not use Cloudflare's optional analytics features that involve client-side tracking.
Embedded Content
The site does not embed content from third-party services such as YouTube, Twitter, or advertising networks. The only external resources loaded are web fonts from Google Fonts. Google's font service may log font requests under their standard terms. No other external resources are loaded during your visit.
Updates and Notification
This policy was written to be straightforward and to change infrequently. When updates are necessary, they will typically relate to changes in hosting infrastructure or legal requirements. Significant changes will be noted in the Changelog. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
Browser Storage
The site may use browser local storage for functional purposes, such as remembering your color mode preference (light or dark theme) or storing search interaction state. This data stays in your browser and is never transmitted to our servers. You can clear it at any time through your browser settings without affecting your ability to use the site.
No session storage is used for tracking purposes. The site does not maintain server-side sessions, and no session identifiers are stored on your device.
Links to Other Sites
The documentation contains a small number of links to external websites for reference purposes. When you follow an external link, you leave this site and become subject to the privacy policy of the destination site. We do not control external sites and cannot be responsible for their privacy practices. We recommend reviewing the privacy policy of any site you visit through links on our pages.
Data Breach Notification
In the unlikely event of a data breach that affects visitor information, we will post a notice on the site within a reasonable timeframe after discovery. Given that we collect minimal data and do not maintain user accounts, the risk and potential impact of a breach is limited. Our hosting provider also monitors for security incidents as part of their infrastructure protection services.
Legal Basis for Processing
For visitors in jurisdictions that require a legal basis for data processing, our basis for processing server log data is legitimate interest. Specifically, the interest in maintaining site security, preventing abuse, and understanding aggregate usage patterns to improve the documentation. This processing is minimal, proportionate, and does not override your fundamental rights.
